How did Voyager Technology design piloting and parking in one? | 5th Gasgoo 2022 Autonomous Driving Forum
2022-09-26

September 15 to 16, the "2022 5th Autonomous Driving and Human-Machine Co-Driving Forum" hosted by Gasgoo was successfully held in Shanghai Greenland Mansion Convention Centre. Industry bigwigs gathered at the forum to analyze and share the current development status and future trends in global autonomous driving with in-depth debating and professional vision. The forum also provided online live stream, attracting 121,000 online viewers.

Voyager Technology, was invited as guest speaker and Automated Parking BU Division Product expert Zhang Haolei spoke about “Advantages of Voyager Technology’s pilot and parking in one: all scenarios intelligent parking” to the audience, industry experts, and partners.

1  Voyager Technology All Scenarios Intelligent Parking 3.0

Voyager Technology all scenarios intelligent parking 3.0 utilizing deep learning algorithms, software, and hardware to constantly improve and optimize planning and controls to meet the demands of various parking scenarios (covering such as perpendicular, horizontal and slant parking spots, remote parking, memory parking and the next stage of cloud processing auto valet parking), and supporting head in/back out, which can be constantly upgraded.

  • From parking space lines to no parking lines, the vehicle utilizing perception sensors to patrol, detect vacant spaces, to achieve "see and park".

  • From driver in car to driver outside car, the vehicle can be monitored by mobile phone to complete one-button summon and one-button automatic parking;

  • From inside to outside location, the applicable distance for smart parking is 1 km. Sentinel mode, memory parking, car search + AR navigation, V2X linking AVP and reserved parking are executable.

  • From on-site learning to no-learning, based on sensors (vision + radar + wheel speed +IMU fusion) to conduct environment perception and positioning (autonomous parking lot exploration, incorporating driving laws and road signs).  It does not need to rely on high-precision maps, can utilize partial site scans, or even no prior site scans at all. It has the advantage of reducing R&D costs and reducing the risk of updating road conditions at the end of the field.

2  Voyager Technology advantage of visual based VT Pilot 2.0

Visual based VT Pilot 2.0 is mainly applied to enable drivers to easily recognize more scenarios, enhancing the safety of scenarios. In the implementation of piloting and parking, the main four tasks are: object detection and tracking, driveable area differentiation, road environment detection, mapping & localization.

The overall visual environment of the piloting and parking is no longer restricted to the four around view cameras. The main front camera and blind spot cameras will also be added into the "fusion AVM" function, which strengthens the perception, recognition, tracking and prediction of all targets around the car body, and is more conducive to the application of high-level autonomous driving.

When it comes to mapping and location of obstacles around a vehicle, there are two points that deserve particular attention.

The first one is the collection and construction of map features.

When driving in covered parking lots, we need to manually sweep the map without the support of a high-precision map. First of all, Voyager Technology VT Pilot 2.0 will map the visual range features of the vehicle driving direction. Simultaneously, collecting vehicle driving parameters, such as wheel speed, steering wheel angle, gyroscope, IMU and other integrated information, used to render all the movement model feature points. As the vehicle proceeds forward, it continuly performs the above said process to generate a complete SLAM map.

The second one feature is BEV space fusion.

BEV is similar to the bird’s eye view in the around view, but BEV has a wider scope. It can be simply understood as that the forward direction of the vehicle is the critical front region of automatic driving which will be projected with around view field of vision creating a 3D space. Voyager Technology’s VT pilot 2.0 will also incorporate the view of the forward camera into the entire BEV environment, synchronize data from all cameras and rendering a virtual environment based on vehicle coordinate axis, and simultaneously incorporate time axis information. This method is able to track more horizontal plane distances and has more intelligent tracking advantage for traversing objects. Graphs below shows capture static elements such as roads and pavements; It can also capture dynamic targets, such as cars and pedestrians, greatly improving the safety of NOA.

In the future, more sensors, such as mmWave radar and lidar, will be projected into BEV space through fusion methods, which will contribute more to the algorithmic processing and proportioning match of the external environment during vehicle driving.

Smart Mobility Experience UP, Product Value Advantage

In addition to APA products, CMS, another major product of Voyager Technology, also made an appearance at the show. CMS electronic rearview mirror system is an intelligent driving assistance which eliminates blind spots in driving, turning and parking.  Additional ADAS features can identify objects surrounding the car body, active tags in display, alarm prompts, and bring customers a more comfortable and safe driving experience.
